About the Diploma of Communication

The Diploma of Communication is designed to provide students with a broad introduction to communication in a supportive, student-centred learning environment. It will prepare students for further study or for a professional communication career.

Students will explore a broad range of discipline areas including, web and social media literacy; digital media and screen production and analysis; graphic design. They will also have a better understanding of career planning and management, as well as develop literacy skills that will enhance their academic and professional communication and language capabilities. The knowledge and skills gained through completing the Diploma will be directly transferable to either entry-level employment/work settings and/or to the second year of our Bachelor of Communication degree. 

Second year of your Murdoch University Dubai degree

You can continue into your Bachelor of Communication with a major in:

  • Web Communication
  • Strategic Communication

Successful completion of the Diploma will allow you to enter into the second year of the bachelor’s degree at Murdoch University Dubai Campus with 8 units of credit.

  • In addition, students who have successfully completed the national entrance exam (Konkur) will be considered for entry in any of their preferred Murdoch University programs, as listed above (Foundation, Diploma, Undergraduate)

Faculty profiles – Communication

Joseph John Nalloor, leads the Media and Communications programme at Murdoch University Dubai. He has over 17 years’ experience in teaching media in Dubai and has headed three media schools. He is also an Associate Fellowship holder from the Higher Education Academy (HEA), UK.

He is a Strategy Board Member of MEPRA (Middle East Public Relations Association) and a Board Member of PRCA-MENA (Public Relations and Communications Association). Joseph also serves on several university academic boards.

He believes in strong student-industry collaborations and has been responsible for several tie-ups with the Dubai Press Club, Emirates Literature Festival, Sharjah International Book Fair, Dubai International Film Festival among others. His students, over the years, have been working in media houses and PR firms in the UAE and the region.

Joseph has mentored several successful student teams participating in competitions and creative hackathons with several notable awards.

Joseph has been published in peer reviewed journals, presented at international conferences and features as a speaker on media issues on radio and industry panels.

Sudha Chandran is an adjunct faculty for Strategic Communications in the undergraduate program at Murdoch University Dubai. A versatile and skilled communications professional, Sudha has almost two decades of experience in the media and communications sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), spanning desktop publishing, journalism, public relations and corporate communications.

During this time, she has worked with several public and private sector organizations to develop and implement creative and effective communication strategies for them.

With her vast experience, Sudha also serves as a mentor to industry award winning student teams. Her students have been recruited by leading regional and global PR firms.

Sudha holds an MPhil degree from the University of Hyderabad, India, in addition to an MA (English) and a Bachelors in Journalism from Punjab University, India.

Teneille Saayman (AFHEA) is a Senior Lecturer and an Associate Fellowship holder from the Higher Education Academy (HEA), UK and holds a MA in Marketing Communications and BA in Media, Advertising and PR from Middlesex University. She is also a certified Adult Mental Health First Aid provider (MFAiders).

With 10+ years of Teaching Experience in Higher Education Institutions across the United Arab Emirates, Teneille specializes in Film, Advanced Media Production, Strategic Marketing, Digital Design, Social Media, Critical Web Literacy, Media Laws and Ethics.

She has also worked as a Producer for the UAE's first ever science-fiction feature-length film and is subsequently considered one of the few pioneering Genre Filmmakers in the MENA Region. She is a Marketeer and Filmmaker with a passion for technology and research, with over 12+ years of cumulative experience in Branding, Marketing, Social Media, Content Production, and PR Management in the UAE.

Dimo Valev holds an MA in Graphic Design from the National Academy of Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria, and qualifications as an art and design teacher. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, section Graphic Design.

Dimo has taught at the undergraduate level in several international universities in Dubai for over a decade, including Murdoch University Dubai, Middlesex University, Amity University and Manipal University. He teaching portfolio covers a variety of subjects related to Graphic Design and Advertising, but also the industry-standard Adobe CC software applications. His research interests include Graphic Design, Branding, Environmental Graphics and Wayfinding.

His design students are working in various reputed agencies and branding departments across brands worldwide.
