Psychology Lab

Advancing Research and Innovation in Human Behaviour

Cross-Cultural Psychology Lab

The Cross-Cultural Psychology Lab at Murdoch University Dubai serves as a foundation for fostering a strong culture of scientific research. It operates as a cross-disciplinary research space, bringing together scholars from various departments to explore different aspects of human functioning and promoting collaboration among faculty, particularly in IT, Business, and Education, given their strong links with Psychology.

The lab is led by our core team: Dr. Magdalena Mosanya (Founder and Chair), Ms. Olga Khokhlova (Founder and Deputy Chair), and Ms. Indhumathi Rajasekaran (Founder and Deputy Chair).

The primary focus of the lab will be on cross-cultural research studies that address female empowerment, sustainability, and the role of technology in human functioning, all of which align with the goals of the UAE Development Agenda. The lab will also train students to take on research assistant roles in the future. It is a great opportunity to apply the knowledge to practice.

Getting involved in a research lab is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have as a psychology student. It is where theory comes to life, where the concepts you have been studying in textbooks are tested, challenged, and explored in real time. In the lab, you do not just learn about how research works; you become an active part of the process.

You will gain valuable hands-on experience, whether it is collecting data, running experiments, or analysing results using research software. These skills will benefit you far beyond the classroom, especially if you are considering postgraduate studies or a career in psychology. Just as importantly, you will develop essential abilities such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective teamwork.

Being part of a research lab also connects you with mentors and peers who share your interests. The guidance of faculty and collaboration with other students often lead to lasting professional relationships, and sometimes even future career opportunities. Along the way, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects that advance our understanding of the mind and behaviour, and perhaps even make a difference in people’s lives.

Our Psychology Society

Psychology Society Student Team – Insiya Hemani, Paul Raven Francisco, Catherine Annis, and Aena Imtiaz

The Kaleidoscope Cross-Cultural Psychology Lab collaborates closely with Murdoch University Psychology Society, which is a vibrant community of students united by a shared passion for understanding the human mind and behaviour. Open to all who are curious about psychology—whether as a field of study, a future career, or simply a personal interest—the society provides a platform for learning, dialogue, and collaboration beyond the classroom.

Our members engage in a variety of activities, including academic discussions, workshops, guest lectures, film screenings, and community outreach projects. We also organise social events that foster connections and a sense of belonging among students from diverse backgrounds and levels of study. By joining, students have the opportunity to develop critical thinking, research, and leadership skills while exploring the diverse branches of psychology, including clinical, social, cognitive, and cross-cultural.

Above all, the Psychology Society is student-driven: it thrives on creativity, inclusivity, and the enthusiasm of its members to make psychology meaningful, practical, and impactful in everyday life.
