Recognition of Prior Learning

If you have previous study or professional experience relating to your field of study, you may be eligible to receive credit for certain units in your course. Known as Advanced Standing, this could reduce your overall study load and the amount of time you need to study before you can graduate.

The supporting documents you need to supply will depend on the basis on which you are applying for Advanced Standing. All supporting documentation must be certified. If you are applying for Advanced Standing on the basis of prior study, you need to include the following documents with your application:

  • Academic Transcript
  • Description of the grading system
  • Description of all subjects you have completed - Learning guides / Unit guides / Subject outlines

If you are applying for Advanced Standing on the basis of prior work experience, you will need to submit the following document/s with your application:

  • Certified supporting statements from employers. The Statement of Service must be on company letterhead and include the following information:
    • your full name
    • whether you were employed on a full time or part time basis
    • the hours you worked per week
    • your position title
    • the period of employment in the position
    • details of the duties of the position
    • a signature from your employer

If you are self-employed, you must include all of the following documents with your application:

  • A copy of your business certificate of registration
  • A letter from your accountant or solicitor stating:
    • The nature of the business
    • How long you have been continuously engaged in the business
